An example of late 1970′s or early 1980′s mod-pop art giant-ism* in a mass-produced piece sometimes known as the ‘resting’ or ‘lounging’ cat.
Supposedly the original painting was by Antoinette Letterman and named Cashmere. Reportedly this work was then copied (illegally?), mass-produced and sold as decor. Our research shows that the Letterman ‘signed’ works can be found world-wide (UK, Australia, US, etc) and at least some were sold domestically by J.C. Penny.
We’ve also found that the original retail price for the cat was about $250 to $400.
Ours measures 61 1/4 inches x 49 1/4 inches in frame. It is in purrrr OK Condition.
*One could think of it as an example of what happens when unfettered capitalism and/or the free love disco era mixes with hard drug use. Or one could just gaze with wide-eyed amazement upon the artistic marvel that it is.
